What a Year for the Toronto Stars

Hi everyone, we just wanted to update all our Stars members on the accomplishments that were recognized this past weekend at the Annual General Meeting of the Ontario Lacrosse Association.

The Toronto Stars Organization was nominated by Tina Manning, the Zone Director for our Zone 6 for the Promotion & Development Award for 2011 and we were chosen by the OLA to receive this award. This award was given to our organization this past Saturday night at the Awards Banquet at the Marriott in Niagara Falls. It is an incredible honour to be recognized for our hard work and dedication to lacrosse and our Toronto Stars.

The award reads:

Promotion & Development
Award 2011

Presented Annually to the Lacrosse Association
Selected as having done the most to promote & develop
Lacrosse in its area and throughout the
Province of Ontario

TORONTO STARS MINOR

Congratulations one and all and we can't wait to see what we can do together in 2012.

Well believe it or not, that was not our only award this past weekend. We won a "Coach of the Year" Award.

Every year organizations can nominate a coach for this award. At the September meeting of the Zone 6 the club representatives can nominate someone from their organization and the letters are read and vote's taken. This past September, the Stars nominated Rick Fitchett for this honour and he won.

So on Saturday at the awards luncheon Rick accepted this award. We had all kept it a surprise, and surprised he was! Over the past four years Rick and his coaching staff took an amazingly talented group of players and built a team that won the Stars organization's first ever Provincial Championships in the Peewee C Division. Rick is blessed with having assistant coaches that played for him throughout the years and continue to play the game . Derek Hopcroft and Scott Fitchett. They know lacrosse inside and out. They have taught the players the skills, the plays, the sport . Rick is, the motivation, the dedication, the administration, the bond that holds it all together and we congratulate him on winning this award.

Congratulations to Rick and his Pee Wee 1 coaching staff, job well done.

Stars Pee Wee C Provincial Champs

All of our Toronto Stars Rep teams had a wonderful Provincial showing!

For the first time ever, in Stars history, we received a Provincial Championship! Our Pee Wee 1 team fought hard, tough and smart winning 5 of their 6 games to take them to the Provincial "C" Championship. They faced the team they lost to in the round robin, Akwasasne for the finals at Iroquois Park and it was an amazing game. With their pure determination and the screaming from the stands they won with a score of 4 to 2. Congratulations boys !!

The Stars Intermediate team won all of their round robin, quarter final and semi final games taking them to the Championship game as well! They had an amazing tournament, playing hard and fast earning them the chance to take it all. In a back and forth game our Stars fought hard but in the end they lost by only one goal in overtime. What an accomplishment !

The Stars Midget team worked their butts off and played some of the best lacrosse we have seen them play this season, they made it through the round robin and into the quarter finals. It was just not meant to be, but we are very proud of their accomplishment in the Provincials this year.

The Stars Novice team flew through their round robin and played some great lacrosse. Their games were very exiting. Their fourth game was a very tough back and forth game they lost in sudden death overtime. These young players only have great things to look forward to in their lacrosse career.

Our Bantam, Pee Wee 2 and Tykes all played hard in their round robin games. The Bantams won one with a 4 - 1 score. Our Pee Wee 2 team in their first provincials played hard. Our Tykes played amazing and you could see how they had developed and learned the game of lacrosse.

Congratulations to all players, coaching staff and parents. What an amazing show at the Provincials. On behalf of all the executive, thank you for making this season the Stars best ever. Can't wait for next year.

"Super Stars"

Toronto Stars Houseleague Championship Day was a huge success.

Most games on the floor were very competitive, but regardless of the scores every single person was a Champion on Saturday at our second Championship Day. The turnout was excellent and the day was filled with awards, and smiling faces. We had a BBQ and a Watermelon contest that was very successful. Apparently it is harder than it looks to hit a watermelon with a lacrosse ball, just sayin.

The Novice Rep team participated in the day's activities with a raffle, the Bantam Rep team did a car wash and silent auction, both raising funds for their season and bringing added excitement and participation to our Houseleague Day.

Our volunteers seconded to none, worked hard, time keeping, score keeping, working selling 50/50, auction tickets, cooking at the BBQ, and much, much more. The players of all ages enjoyed the lacrosse and the opportunity to all be together and enjoy the game we love the most. It was a great day start to finish and now the executive is starting plans for next year, using this year to build on. I gave each player on Saturday a challenge, "if you bring just one friend, then we can double your fun". Our goal next season is just that, build and grow our Toronto Stars.
A very special thank you to all our volunteers who came out to houseleague every night, your dedication to the houseleague this year, made our Stas Houseleague run smoother and more efficient than ever.

Also, to Ron Parkinson, Past President, who was out on Saturday working hard for his organization Thank you for starting and developing this great organization that we have all grown to love, your brain child has turned into a lacrosse family that works together for this great sport, we continue your organization with great pride.
